Shared at the Feb 16 All Church Meeting, the following highlights Trinity's leadership roles both according to the United Methodist Discipline and as shared by Committee Chairs.

 

POSITIONS

Recording secretary: Paragraph 247.1

Duties

  • Keep an accurate record of proceedings
  • Serves as charge conference and church council secretary if only one charge

 

 

Church historian: Paragraph 247.5

Duties

  • Keep historical records up to date
  • Serve as chair of the committee on records and history
  • Provide an annual report on the care of church records and historical materials
  • Preserve all local church records and historical materials

 

 

Lay leader: Paragraph 251.1

Duties

  • Fostering awareness of the role of laity both within the congregation and through their daily ministries
  • Meeting regularly with the pastor to discuss the state of the church and needs for ministry
  • Member of the church council, Finance, Nominations/Leadership Development, Staff Parish
  • Continuing involvement in study and training opportunities to fulfill the church’s mission
  • Assisting in advising the church council of opportunities available and the needs expressed for a more effective ministry of the church in the community
  • Informing the church of training opportunities

 

 

Lay member: Paragraph 251.2

Duties: Attend annual conference.

 

 

Church council chair: Paragraph 251.3

Duties:

  • Leading the council in fulfilling its responsibilities
  • Preparing and communicating the agenda
  • Reviewing and assigning responsibility for implementing actions taken by the council
  • Communicating with members and others
  • Coordinating the various activities of the council
  • Providing the initiative and leadership for the council re: planning, objectives/goals and evaluating
  • Participating in leadership training programs
  • Can attend any meeting he/she wants
