Discipleship at Trinity

Precept:  A disciple of Jesus Christ at Trinity United Methodist Church seeks to grow and guide others in the Love of God and community through meaningful, intentional relationships and personal development.

A disciple of Jesus Christ at Trinity United Methodist Church acts with:
  • HUMILITY, seeking to be a model of God’s love in word and deed (Colossians 3:12-17);
  • INTENT, living by purpose and decision (Ephesians 5:15-16);
  • RECOGNITION of his/her position as a servant leader, offering his/her talents and gifts to God and others (Romans 12:4-7);
  • OBEDIENCE to Christ’s essential commandments to love God and love people (Matthew 22:37-39).

Cumulatively, a disciple of Jesus Christ at Trinity United Methodist Church seeks to model these principles through acts of service and loving outreach to others as a fundamental application of faith.
  • CULTIVATE – Create an environment conducive to growth
  • CHRISTIAN – Jesus Christ is at the center (who He is, what He taught, what He did) and deepening our relationship with Him.
  • COVENANT – A way of being in relationship with God and others.
  • COMMUNITY – Sharing fellowship and learning, but most importantly, sharing ourselves and our experiences. People learn best in the context of community.

Proposed discipleship groups at Trinity United Methodist Church should guide disciples in the following essential areas:
  • Scholarly study of Scripture or religious writings  (e.g. Jeremy’s Sunday morning study)
  • Prayer and other traditional spiritual practices  (e.g. Pastor Tracey’s spiritual direction group)
  • Christian lifestyle/personal growth (e.g. the Monday evening women’s study)
  • Application of discipleship in daily life and intentional relationships (e.g. Morris’ story group)
