Faith Challenge

Can you imagine what it might be like to lose the ability to speak for nine months?  Imagine how much worse it would be in a culture where few people could read or write.  When Zechariah doubted the message of Gabriel, the angel told him, “because you did not believe my words…you will become mute, unable to speak until the day these things occur” (Luke 1:20).  The story of Zechariah reminds us to place our trust in the promises of God.

This week eat a meal in silence.  Shut off your smart phone; turn off the TV.  Spend the mealtime quietly reflecting on a promise from God found in scripture.  Give thanks for God’s faithfulness.  If you are eating with a friend or family member, conclude your meal by sharing your biblical promise with one another.

If you need help selecting a promise from scripture, here are some to consider:

-For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the LORD, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
-The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want (Psalm 23:1)
-God has said, "I will never leave you or forsake you." (Hebrews 13:5)
-And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes (Revelation 7:17)
